DEVELOPING HABITS, Part 3: Going Deeper Questions

DEVELOPING HABITS, Part 3: Going Deeper Questions

We loved seeing everyone at church this weekend!  Feel free to message us during the week if you have any questions about the sermon. If you missed this week’s message, or want to hear it again, be sure to check out our SERMONS Page. Messages are generally posted each week by Wednesday morning.

Every week, it’s our goal to provide you with some questions to process the message deeper, either personally, or with a small group. Here are some questions for you to consider from this week’s message, “Being Generous”, part 3 of the DEVELOPING HABITS THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE message series with Pastor Shawn M. Shoup.

This Sunday Pastor Shawn gave us 3 directives to encourage us to give. Let’s discuss each of those and see if we can apply them more deeply to our hearts.

  1. Inspect your heart – give cheerfully!
    • Do you struggle to give cheerfully? Have you struggled in the past with cheerful  giving? What might keep a person from being able to truly give with good motivations?
  2. Reject recognition.
    • In Matthew 6:2-4 (NLT) Jesus says, “When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get. But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”
    • What are some dangers of giving and expecting recognition?
    • What are some benefits of giving in secret?
  3. Expect God’s blessing.
    • We often struggle with the idea that giving means we will have more. This biblical God-truth stands contrary to everything that we are taught from childhood about saving and not wasting our resources. Have you overcome this belief in your life?
    • What steps might you take to learn to give with expectancy?
    • Take a few moments to pray and ask the Father to help you adopt His heart and understanding of the benefits of making giving a habit in your own life.
