We loved seeing everyone online this weekend! Feel free to message us during the week if you have any questions. If you missed this week’s message, or want to hear it again, be sure to check out our SERMONS Page. Messages are generally posted each week by Wednesday morning.
Every week, it’s our goal to provide you with some questions to process the message deeper, either personally, or with a small group. Here are some questions for you to consider from this week’s message, “The Chain of Our Past”, part 3 of the BREAKING CHAINS message series with Pastor Shawn M. Shoup.
KEY SCRIPTURES
- John 4:7-39, Revelations 5 ESV
TALK IT OUT
- In weeks 1 and 2, we talked about the chains of doubt and fear. This week, we are talking about the chains of our past. Pastor Shawn opened with this verse: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23
- What affect might the chains of doubt and fear have on our belief in, and understanding, of this verse?
- How can the chains of our past, the downfalls of our past, the wounds of our past, affect our understanding and belief of this verse?
- The New Testament often compares the act of following Christ to the grafting of a branch to a new tree. Us being the branches and Jesus is the good, new tree. The question then becomes, what are my roots? Are my roots in my past? Or are my roots in Jesus?
- What effects might the chains of doubt and fear have on the chains of our past in the light of the reality that our past has been re-written in Christ?
- 2 Corinthians 5: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
- If Christ has made us new, what power do the chains of our past really have on us? What power do they have on our future?
- Take some time and ask the Father to make real to you His plans and purposes for your life. Ask Him to make real your new past and new future in Christ. Ask that the TRUTH that Jesus did ALL of the redemptive work in your life become real to you. Let God take the chains of your past and change them into the redemption story that you get to tell to bring others to freedom in Him.
