POWERFUL PRAYERS, Part 5: Search Me

POWERFUL PRAYERS, Part 5: Search Me

We loved seeing everyone this weekend! Feel free to message us during the week if you have any questions. If you missed this week’s message, or want to hear it again, be sure to check out our SERMONS Page. Messages are generally posted each week by Tuesday afternoon.

Every week, it’s our goal to provide you with some questions to process the message deeper, either personally, or with a small group. Here are some questions for you to consider from this week’s message, “Search Me”, part 5 of the POWERFUL PRAYERS series with Pastor Shawn M. Shoup.

KEY SCRIPTURES

  • Matthew 17:20
  • Psalm 139
  • Jeremiah 17:9
  • 1 John 4:18
  • 2 Timothy 1:7
  • Matthew 7:1
  • James 5:16

TALK IT OUT

Discuss these questions with someone—maybe a family member, friend, or member of your Connect Group. Use a communication method that works best for your situation.

Start talking

Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • Do you take note of the prayers you pray with the answer, or just pray? Explain.
  • Have you ever asked God to search your heart? How was your prayer answered?
  • Who do you lie to the most? Why?
  • How might God use the following words to guide you: Search, Justify, Anxious, and Fear?

Start thinking

Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • What causes you to be anxious? Or fearful?
  • What events or words cause your defenses to be activated?
  • If your life was a house, are there any rooms you have not, or will not, let God search or have access to? Explain.
  • Where are you trying to prove/show you are enough?

Start sharinGChoose a question to create openness.

  • Where do you need God to show up?
  • Do you have a preconceived way you want God to show up?
  • Are there areas where you have rules you expect others to obey no matter what? Explain.
  • Are the lies you tell yourself tied to an Idol or false image of God? Explain.

Start praying

Be bold and pray with power.

Father,

Show me where I am the most anxious or fearful in order that I may learn to trust You more. Help me to dismantle my defenses, in order to show/feel Your love more openly and freely. I seek Your true freedom for my life. Thank You for Your insights, love, and all that You have done in and through my life. Thank You for leading me in your ways.

Amen and amen.

Start doing

Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  1. Take note of the words, events, or actions that God may be using to answer a prayer or show you the directions He would like for you to go.
  2. Ask God to show you where you are rationalizing sin away.
  3. Ask God to show you where you are the most defensive.
  4. Talk to Holy Spirit about how He sees your life, the changes He would like to help you make, and record what He tells you.
  5. Attend one of the prayer meetings in your church or community (Destiny prayer gatherings: Tuesdays at 12:00 pm, Thursdays at 4:30 pm, and Sundays at 9:30 am).
  6. Ask help to determine how ready and willing you are to respond to what He asks of you.
  • Pick one or two of those options and take steps to walk them out this week.
