THE GRUDGE, Part 1: I’m Just Over It

We loved seeing everyone this weekend! Feel free to message us during the week if you have any questions. If you missed this week’s message, or want to hear it again, be sure to check out our SERMONS Page. Messages are generally posted each week by Tuesday afternoon.

Every week, it’s our goal to provide you with some questions to process the message deeper, either personally, or with a small group. Here are some questions for you to consider from part 1 of THE GRUDGE series, “I’m Just Over It”, with Pastor Shawn M. Shoup.

KEY SCRIPTURES

  • Proverbs 19:11
  • Proverbs 10:12
  • Proverbs 17:9
  • Ephesians 4:2
  • Revelation 12:10

TALK IT OUT

Discuss these questions with someone—maybe a family member, friend, or member of your Connect Group. Use a communication method that works best for your situation.

Start talking

Find a conversation starter.

  • Define the following: grudge, offence, character, accusation, freedom, and forgiveness.
  • What is a small offence? Or a large offence?
  • How do you determine which is which?
  • What does an offence look like?

Start thinking

Ask a question to get you/your group thinking.

  • What have you been offended by in the past? Why?
  • When do you realize you have been offended?
  • What do you do once you realize you have picked up an offence?

Start sharinG

Choose a question to create openness.

  • With regards to grace and love, where does grace fit in the situation? Why?
  • Which is easier? Picking up offence, or picking up an attribute God would have you pick up? Explain.

Start praying

Be bold and pray with power.

Father,

Reveal to me when I have been offended and not forgiven or released it to You to work. Enable me to see the offense sooner. Teach me to act the way You would want me to, and not react the way I want to. Thank You for revealing your life-giving freedom in all areas of my life.

Amen and amen.

Start doing

Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  1. Ask God to reveal any offence you have not dealt with. Then ask His help to do what is necessary.
  2. Examine your life: are you a better person or a bitter person in all areas of life?
  3. Determine what it would take to overcome being offended, and then do it.
  4. Ask God who you would need to forgive. Do not leave yourself off the list.
  5. Do a word study on one of the following: offence, hate, strife, love, forgive, patience, or one of your choosing.
  6. Ask God to show you where you need His insights, power, and wisdom the most.
  7. Talk to Holy Spirit about how He sees your life — the changes He would like to help you make — and record what He tells you.
  8. Ask help to determine how ready and willing you are to respond to what He asks of you.
  • Pick one or two of those options and take steps to walk them out this week.
