RAPID CITY ON A HILL, Part 3: Jesus and Lust

We loved seeing everyone this weekend! Feel free to message us during the week if you have any questions. If you missed this week’s message, or want to hear it again, be sure to check out our SERMONS Page. Messages are generally posted each week by Tuesday afternoon.

Every week, it’s our goal to provide you with some questions to process the message deeper, either personally, or with a small group. Here are some questions for you to consider from this week’s message, “Jesus and Lust”, part 3 of the RAPID CITY ON A HILL message series, with Pastor Shawn M. Shoup.

KEY SCRIPTURES

  • Matthew 5:27-30 ESV

TALK IT OUT

Discuss these questions with someone—maybe a family member, friend, or member of your Connect Group. Use a communication method that works best for your situation.

Start talking.

Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • Do you or your family seem to have to deal with cold symptoms around this time of year?
  • What are your best remedies and go-to’s for feeling better (after prayer)?

Start thinking.

Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • Have you ever noticed the Old Testament imagery of our sexuality in the picture of a walled-in garden before? Did that give you any new perspective this weekend? How so?
  • Let’s look at this statement from Sunday’s message: “What happens with our actions begins in our imagination.” Do you agree? How do you feel about that?

Start sharing.

Choose a question to create openness.

  • If our eyes inform our imagination, then it would make sense to spend some time thinking about what our eyes feast on. What do you do to keep your imagination pure?
  • Why do you think Jesus used the words “lustful intent” in Matthew 5? What does that look like?
  • Pastor Shawn gave his interpretation of what it means when Jesus says to tear out your eye and throw it away. What do you think it means?

Start praying.

Be bold and pray with power.

Father, I want to be set apart and holy in my intent and my imaginations. Help me to have a radical cutting-off of things in my life that would keep me from righteousness.

Amen and amen.

Start doing.

Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • In what ways can you put some safe-guard restrictions in your life that can help you walk in freedom from lust? Take some time this week to think that out and place those in your life. Ask our pastoral staff if you need help.
